Why has the deal stalled?
Manchester United have been linked with Matthijs De Ligt since the start of the window
and at some point it looked like a done deal. They had agreed personal terms with De
Ligt and it looked close to a transfer fee being settled. Now after the Leny Yoro deal to
United, things have stalled in the De Ligt deal. De Ligt still very much wants to come to
United and is pushing for the move, but United can’t agree a transfer fee with Bayern.
Now both clubs have agreed to on a fee of €50 million. Now you might be saying “what’s
the issue then”. Man United want the Deal to be €35 million plus €15 million in add-ons.
Bayern want €50 million straight up. So they have both agreed on the €50 million fee
but are disputing the payment terms. Bayern and United are still on great terms and it
even looks like they are working on other deals but that’s for another Article.
Will the Deal still happen?
Now onto the part that everyone has been waiting for, is De Ligt coming to United? My
answer, yes. The deal is still very much intact and negations are still very much ongoing.
Bayern are willing to sell and De Ligt is looking to leave. Both clubs have agreed on a fee
but are disputing the payment terms. So everything is perfect for a deal to be done. So
yes this deal will be done by the end of the window although this will take some time to
get done. According to Fabrizio Romano this deal will not be soon. Now this might be
concerning to hear but its not necessarily a bad thing. This just means that it is not a deal that will happen overnight. It will probably take a week or two, to get done.
Manchester United need to get sales done before they make signings. So they will
probably need a sale or interest a deal in concept of a center back. So to recap, Man
United are still looking to sign De Ligt. He still wants United and Bayern Want to
sell. So the deal is looking like it will be done but it is not an overnight deal and will take
a week or two.
What Does the signing of De Ligt mean for United?
If Man United do sign De Ligt, what does that mean? Well that’s a good question when
they have Martinez, Yoro, and Maguire already. So where would he fit into this
system. First all Maguire will definitely be sold as both parties will want that. Man United
will want the money for Maguire and Maguire will not want to be the fourth choice
center back. Now they will worth will a rotating center back trio of Martinez, Yoro, and
De Ligt. So who will be the two starters out of this? Well there will be no concreate
starters. I think that Martinez will get the most playing time out of all of them as he is
the only left sided center back. For now in a big, for example against City Or Liverpool. I
think that Ten Hag will favor De Ligt and Martinez. But all of this will depend of form. If
De Ligt or Martinez is going through a rough patch, Yoro can step in. Yoro is still 18 and
can not start 38 games in the Prem. Martinez and De Ligt also can’t start 38 games as
they both experience injury problems. So I think Martinez will start about 25 and the
other two will share a the games on the other side. My guess would be 22 to De Ligt and
18 to Yoro. But Yoro will play more of the cup games. So for all the United fans saying
that “we don’t need De Ligt we have Yoro”. We absolutely need him and all the depth
we can get. De Ligt is a world class defender and to pass on him would be foolish.
